Gillespie Eileen Louise Gillespie, 93, of London, died Friday, June 2, 2017 at the Bluebird Retirement Community, London. Mrs. Gillespie was born August 18, 1923 in New Knoxville, Ohio, a daughter of Cornelius W. and Alma (Vodermark) Henkener. She was a member of the United States Army Nurse Cadet Corp, being commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1943. At one point she took care of soldiers as they came back from the Bataan Death March. She retired from Grant Medical Center after twenty years of service. Mrs. Gillespie was a world traveler, participating in "Santa's Tours" with AT&T, handing out gifts at orphanages and nursing homes all over the world. She participated in the "Honor Flight" program. She was able to include her grandchildren on many of these trips. She volunteered at Golden Hobby Shop, Columbus, her church, and the Reynoldsburg Senior Center. She was a lifelong resident of Whitehall, Ohio. She is survived by her sons: Michael (Nancy Henley) Gillespie of Durham, NC, Rodney (Deborah) Gillespie of Sarasota, FL, Jon (Linda) Gillespie of London; grandchildren: Tom Gillespie of San Diego, Cody Gillespie of Sarasota, Chelsea Gillespie, Cheyenne Gillespie, both of Los Angeles, Ryan Gillespie of Cleveland, Kathryn (Kyle) Linnemann of Cincinnati, Megan Gillespie of Columbus; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Mrs. Gillespie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles S. Gillespie, February 2, 1985, whom she married March 9, 1947 in Fort Meyer, Virginia, sisters Margaret Aufderhaar, Carol Wilt, brother George Henkener, best friend Ruth Clutter. The family invites friends to call at the RADER-LYNCH DODDS FUNERAL HOME CREMATION SERVICE, 124 E. High St., London, Wednesday, from 5-7 p.m. A funeral service will be celebrated Thursday, June 8, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Saint Patrick Church, 61 S. Union St., London, with Father Mark Ghiloni officiating. Mrs. Gillespie will lie in state for one hour at the church prior to the start of the service. An inurnment service will be held at a later date at the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington County, Virginia. Friends may make memorial contributions, in Mrs. Gillespie's memory, to .
