Eugene Edward "Gene" Jenny Obituary
Jenny, Eugene "Gene" Edward
Former Sunbury Village Council member Eugene ("Gene") Edward Jenny, 76, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, after an extended illness. Born on Sept. 30, 1941, in Columbus, Ohio, Jenny was a resident of Sunbury since 1970, and served on Sunbury Village Council. He also served on the Village's volunteer Auxiliary Police force in the early 1970s. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served as a Machinist's Mate on the USS Denebola from 1958 through 1962, discharging just before the Cuban Missile Crisis. Jenny was an entrepreneur, owning the technological service company, Technoserv, from 1980 through 2008. Newspapers and print shops throughout the tri-state area knew Jenny to be the man to call if one of their typesetting machines needed repair. He was a 32nd degree Mason of the Scottish and York Rites and a member of Sparrow Lodge No. 400 F. & A.M. of Ohio. A man with a huge heart, Jenny often would perform small acts of kindness throughout the village – whether clearing the sidewalks of snow for an elderly neighbor or calling upon shut-ins to keep them engaged in the outside world. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene E. Jenny, Sr., and Miriam P. (nee Hubbard) Jenny, and infant brother, Paul. Gene and his wife of nearly 56 years, Joanne Kathryn (nee Williams) Jenny, were married on March 2, 1962. In addition to Joanne, he is survived by daughters, Kriss (Brian) Galloway, and Heidi (Emery) Fair; grandchildren, Sarah and Zoe Case, Nicholas Gillenwater, and Adam (Caili) Gillenwater; sister, Ann Wenger; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Calling hours will be Friday, Dec. 29, from 2 to 4 pm, and 6 to 8 pm, at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 637 Ohio Route 61, Sunbury, Ohio. Funeral will be at Hope Lutheran Church, 15370 Meredith State Rd., Sunbury, Ohio, on Saturday, Dec. 30, at 2 pm, with the Rev. Benjamin Meyer presiding. A private burial will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 2, at the Sunbury Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Gene's honor to Hope Lutheran Church and/or Mt. Carmel St. Ann's Hospice Fund at the Mount Carmel Foundation (https://donor.mountcarmelfoundation.org) The DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home of Sunbury is honored to serve Gene's family.
