Weiss Frances Marianne (French) Weiss, age 89, of Columbus, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, Friday January 10, 2014 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. She was born to Marion J. and Frances E. French on December 24, 1924 in Springfield, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years John F. Weiss. Marianne is survived by her sister, Betty F. Unkel; her children, Colonel (retired) John (Jay) Weiss (Barbara), Carol Shapiro Lauvray, Steven Weiss (Lynda) and Susan McKinley (Arthur); nine grandchildren, Sandra DeHaven, Cristin Bryant, Virginia Weiss, Matthew Weiss, Ryan Weiss, Philip Weiss, Mark McKinley, Megan McKinley, and Peter McKinley; and great grandchildren, Emma Bryant and Nathan DeHaven. Marianne was a graduate of Springfield High School and The Ohio State University (B.S. in Business), where she was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority. She worked for 28 years for Clintonville Savings and Loan and its 6 successors as the bank changed ownership over the years. Marianne was a devoted member of Overbrook Presbyterian Church for more than 60 years, Alpha Phi Alumni, the Clintonville Women's Club, and the Assistance League of Metro Columbus; holding leadership positions in each. She loved to play Bridge, was an avid cross-word puzzle enthusiast, and staunch supporter of The Ohio State University. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Overbrook Presbyterian Church, 4131 North High St, Columbus, OH 43214 with Rev. Bill Gause officiating; burial will follow at Union Cemetery. Family will receive friends Tuesday, January 14 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at RUTHERFORD CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, 515 High St., Worthington, OH. To send condolences to the family, please visit
