Frederick Carl Borowitz Obituary
Borowitz Frederick Carl Borowitz ("Fritz" to family), died peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on June 26, 2017. He was born in Columbus to Felix and Gertrude Borowitz. He grew up on Ontario Street and attended St. Thomas Aquinas High School. Fred was preceded in death by his daughter Claudia who was tragically taken from him by an evil witch at age 12. He is survived by his loving wife, Kim; children, Nicholas, Carly, and Kayla; and his brother, Felix and wife, Judy. Shortly after high school, Fred went to Germany for six years where he served three years in the US Army and where later he lived and worked. After returning home, Fred attended CTI (now Columbus State Community College) and was in the first automobile technician class that graduated from there. Thereafter, Fred lived in Columbus where he worked as a highly regarded automobile mechanic until retirement. Fred was blessed with a clear memory of the people and events of his life and an absolutely wonderful sense of humor that never left him. Fred was especially proud of his father, a 1923 immigrant to this country from Germany, and spoke highly of him and his accomplishments. Fred shared recollections often about the folks who he grew up with on Ontario Street, his participation in basketball games at Linden Park, his experiences in Germany and the times with Kim and the folks at Buyko's 311 Grill on Cleveland Avenue. Fred enjoyed spending time with his cousin Greg who helped him through some hard times with lots of laughs and a cold beer. He also enjoyed times with his family on the beach at Topsail Island, the times with Greg and family telling ghost stories around the fire and camping in his backyard. He also enjoyed Euchre games at family gatherings and afternoons with Kim at the Villa Nova while he was fighting the cancer that brought him down. Fred is also survived by nephews, Brian (Amy), Michael (Traci), John (Julie); and niece, Theresa. He especially enjoyed spending time with Brian who shared his delight in drinking an icy cold beer or two. Fred's almost favorite quotation: "It is what it is". Visiting hours will be Friday, June 30, 2017 from 5-8 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER NORTH CHAPEL, 5554 Karl Rd.
