Gene Slagle Obituary

SLAGLE Gene Slagle, 92, Marion, a former State Senator and long time auctioneer and realtor, died on December 19, 2006, at Marion General Hospital, of complications following a recent accident. Gene was born on November 20, 1914, in Crawford County, Ohio. He graduated from The Ohio State University in 1936. Mr. Slagle is survived by his wife of 69 years, Emily Slagle; five children, Nelson (Tammy) Slagle of Westminster, California, Bonnie Shaffstall of Irvine, California, Betty (Bill) Huckaba of Worthington, Ohio, Jim (Heidi) Slagle of Marion, Ohio and John (Gale) Slagle of Irvine, California; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Mr. Slagle served six years in the State Legislature, after being elected as a State Representative from Marion County in 1964 and as a State Senator for the 26th District in 1972 and 1974. For over 50 years, Gene operated a real estate and auction business, with offices in Marion and Crawford Counties, and was a former president of the Ohio Auctioneers Assoc., as well as the Marion and Galion Boards of Realtors. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4–7 p.m. at the DENZER-FARISON-HOTTINGER & SNYDER FUNERAL HOME in Marion. Burial will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Bucyrus on Friday morning. A Celebration of Life service in Mr. Slagle's honor will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Epworth United Methodist Church in Marion. Memorial contributions may be made to the Epworth United Methodist Church, 249 E. Center St., Marion, OH 43302. Condolences can be expressed to the family at www.snyderfuneralhomes.com.
