Gerald Cummings Obituary
Cummings, Gerald
Gerald Richard "Jerry" Cummings, Sr., age 78, previously of Columbus, Ohio, currently of Clearwater. Florida, passed away Monday, July 24, 2017. Gerald was born in Carbondale, Pennsylvania, son of the late Joseph and Isabel (silent movie organist) Cummings. Also preceded in death by his brothers, Donald, Alan, and Robert. Gerald proudly served his country throughout his career with the U.S. Air Force and retired after 21 years as Sr. Master Sergeant. Throughout his career he traveled to more than 72 countries and amassed over 10,000 flight hours. He was a Vietnam Veteran where he received the Meritorious Service Medal, and was a proud patriot who strongly believed in the U.S. Constitution. In addition to Gerald's love for his country, he was also an accomplished pianist, paralegal and life-long learner. He played music for the sheer joy it brought to others, be it Disney songs for children, requested songs for those who came to hear him play at Thai Orchid, music from the 30's and 40's to get the toes tapping at the nursing homes, or patriotic songs for the veterans he would visit. This was his gift of love he shared with the world. Gerald was also a graduate of the University of South Florida and member of Chapel By The Sea, Clearwater. He will be deeply missed by his loving children, Michael, Jerry (Jackie), Donna, Linda, and Scott; grandchildren, Michelle, Austin (Michael), Olivia (Alex), and Krissy; great grandchildren who referred to him as "GGPop", Brinley and Annie; brother, Kenneth; nieces, Peggy and Debbie; nephews, Bobby and Michael; former wife and mother of his 5 children, Lois Lutz; and many other extended family members. Family will receive friends from 3-7 P.M. Thursday, August 3, 2017 and 10-11 A.M. Friday, August 4, 2017 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd., where funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Friday, August 4, 2017. Gerald's family would like to thank the Chapel By The Sea in Clearwater. Gerald loved the choir and especially the wonderful humorous sermons. They also would like to thank the breakfast club at Angie's, it was truly the highlight of his day. Due to his loving service for his country, family suggests memorial contributions be made to any military organization in his memory. One of Gerald's favorite saying was "If music be the food of life, play on…." To share memories or condolences, please visit www.schoedinger.com.
