1933 - 2017 Obituary Condolences
Harlan "Dave" Burks Obituary
Burks Harlan "Dave" Burks, 84, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 17, 2017, surrounded by family. He was born March 26, 1933, in Sycamore, Ohio. He was a consummate handy man who could fix just about anything, and worked for years as a maintenance man at Applied Innovation. Dave was a proud Air Force veteran who served during the Korean War. He loved to have fun and was a self-taught tennis player with a mean spin. He participated in World Team Tennis as well as the State and National Senior Olympics. He looked forward to vacations in the Outer Banks with the whole "Griswold" family. He also regularly attended YMCA Camp Willson Men's Camp. He was a loyal Buckeye fan and a Red Coat at OSU football games for over twenty years. He loved to help wherever he was needed and was a long-time enthusiastic volunteer at the First Community Church garage sale. But he was perhaps proudest of his accomplishments in his roles as Dad and "Grampy." He is survived by his two daughters, Robin and Rita, and their families, Rita and Tom Trimble, Tyler (Ann Keane) and Tory (Brian Sambecki), all of the Columbus, Ohio area; Robin Burks and Fred Ames, Jessie and Travis, all of Houston, Texas. He is also survived by Robin and Rita's mother, Dave's former wife, Rose Burks, of Lincoln, Nebraska. Also, his sisters, Maxine Hannam and Bonnie (JC) Sharrock; sisters-in-law, Diane Burks, Crystal Burks, and Rhea Hoy; brother-in-law, Wayne Holzwart; and many nieces and nephews and their children. He is preceded in death by his parents Floyd and Blanche (Roberts) Burks, and siblings Bill, Bob, Marilyn Holzwart, Keith, and Wayne. The family is grateful for the caring staff at Abbington Assisted Living and the compassionate care from the Mount Carmel Hospice team. Memorial Contributions may be made to: First Community Church Missions Fund; YMCA Camp Willson, 2732 County Road 11, Bellefontaine, Ohio 43311; and Mt. Carmel Hospice, 6150 E. Broad St., Columbus, Ohio 43213. Family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. on Friday, June 30, 2017 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road, Upper Arlington, Ohio 43221. A Celebration of Life Service, followed by a gathering for family and friends, will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at First Community Church Burkhart Chapel, 1320 Cambridge Blvd., Columbus, Ohio 43212.
