Harold R. Shonborn Obituary
Shonborn Harold R. Shonborn, 75 of Deltona, FL, formerly of Newark, Ohio, passed away Thursday, May 11, 2017 at the Hospice Care Center in Orange City, FL. surrounded by his loving family. He was born to the late Guy and Dorothy Hogue Shonborn, May 4, 1942. After high school, he enlisted in the Marines, serving on the USS Hancock during the Viet Nam era. He retired from Lucent Technology, Columbus in 2001 then moved to Florida in 2002. Harold enjoyed canoeing, dancing, dirt bike and motor cycle riding, fishing, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Harold was a loving husband, dedicated father, grandfather, great grandfather and a generous friend. Always willing to help whenever asked upon. He especially enjoyed watching the wildlife in his back yard. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Carey, whom he married May 11, 1993; a daughter, Shannon (Paul) Foremen; step daughter, Melinda Dixon of West Palm Beach, FL; grandchildren, Shay Parsley and Jonathan Arbaugh; step grandchildren, Tiffany (Mason) Corbin and Torri Sunkle, both of Ft. Myers, FL; a sister, Barb (Garland) Reynolds; an aunt, Elizabeth Faust of Fostoria, OH; one great grandchild; seven step great grandchildren; and two nieces; and three nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Guy, Jr and James. A service of Celebration for the Life of Harold will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at the Bishopville Church of Christ, 6555 South State Route 78, Glouster, OH with John Wright officiating. There will be a military service conducted by the United States Marine Corp and the Combined Color Guard Unit. Following the service there will be a gathering in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Conservation Fund, 1655 N. Fort Myer Dr., Arlington, VA 22209. Arrangements are by the MORRISON FUNERAL CHAPEL, Glouster-Bishopville.
