1930 - 2017
H.C. Powell, age 87, of Centerburg, OH, died November 13, 2017 at home following a two year battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. On October 28, 1930, he was born in Garland, W.Va., the son of the late Newton and Ida (Cochran) Powell. On August 3, 1968 he married Barbara Jean (Diedrich) Powell in Columbus, OH who survives him. Together they shared 49 years of marriage. H.C. is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Powell; son, John (Cindy) Bogdue; grandchildren, Michael (Rachel), Kayla (Ian), Olivia, Leah, and Nicholas; great-grandchildren, Riley and Andrew; sister, Libby; brother, Danny; Melody (Mike) Powell Stumpf; and other numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by sisters Ruth, Mildred and Dorothy, brothers Hobart, Tommy and Richard. H.C. was proud to serve his country in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1946-1952. Throughout his life he worked at North American Aviation, International Harvester, Rish Equipment, R.E.C.O. Equipment and W.Va. Mining. H.C. was the Past Master of York Lodge #565 (Life Member); a 32nd Degree Mason; Chapter, Council Commandery; Eastern Star Knox County Chapter #236; Member of China Marine Association and attended Centerburg Christian Church. Currently he resided in Centerburg, Ohio, but in the past resided in Iaeger, W.Va., Columbus, OH and Westerville, OH. H.C. was a fan of W.Va. Mountaineers and Ohio State Football and Basketball. He enjoyed reviewing military history, golfing, genealogy, woodworking scrapbooking and coin collecting. His proudest achievements were being awarded a Purple Heart and Silver Star while serving in the U.S.M.C., serving as Past-Master York Lodge and being a Fantastic Husband, Father and Grandfather. H.C. was a devoted family man with a calm, loving and nonjudgmental character. He concerned himself with world issues caring about others. The family of H.C. would like to extend a special thank you for the loving care and kindness he received from the staff at the V.A. Clinic.
