Helen Vivian Kostas Obituary
Kostas Helen Vivian Kostas, 94, expired peacefully in the company of loved ones on May 20, 2017. She was the wife of Leon S. Kostas for 71 years, until his death in March, 2014. Helen was a 1941 graduate of South High School, and then Bliss College; worked as an insurance administrative assistant before and after marrying on December 5, 1943. She was an accomplished pianist and dancer and known to family and the Greek community at large to be vivacious, energetic and a devoted mother and wife. Helen was a lifelong member of the Greek Orthodox Church and spoke English and Greek fluently. Helen worked side by side with her husband in their laundry and dry cleaning establishment for thirty years, first at the G&L laundry on Rich Street and then at Key Cleaners on Hudson Street. Most recently she lived in Ft. Wayne, IN., since April, 2011. Helen is survived by her daughter, Constance Giokaris and son-in-law, John Giokaris of Fort Wayne, IN.; son, Spiro Kostas of Rohnert Park, CA.; grandsons, Peter (Danielle) Giokaris of Ft. Wayne, IN., and David Giokaris of Columbus, OH.; great-grandchildren, Johnathan Giokaris of Ft. Wayne, IN., Lainie, Zander and Harper Ziliak of Ft. Wayne, IN.; nieces, Barbara (Stellios) Giannopoulos, Kriti (John) Davies and Tina (David) Betz of Columbus, OH.; and nephews, John (JoAnn) Tambakis of Palm Garden, FL., Stan (Maria) Harris of Salem, MA. and George Pritsolas, (Candace Estep) of Columbus, OH; and great nieces and nephews. Friends and family may pay their respects on Thursday, June 1, 2017, from 5-8 p.m. with the Trisagion at 5:30 p.m. at O. R. WOODYARD NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 2990 Bethel Road, Columbus, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 555 N. High Street, on Friday, June 2, at 10 a.m. Interment at Glen Rest Memorial Estate 8029 E. Main Street, Reynoldsburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Columbus Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
