Jacqueline Josephine (Hardy) Smith fell asleep in death peacefully surrounded by family on August 19, 2017. She was born July 2, 1943 in Columbus to Bessie Mae Braxton and Willis Oliver Hardy. Jackie joined and was baptized as a child at Gay Street Baptist Church under Rev. Fincher and later joined Galilee Baptist Church under Pastor Henry J. Scott. She graduated from East High School in 1961. She graduated from CTI with an Associate's of Business Management. She retired from the US Postal service. She is preceded in death by her biological parents, her adoptive parents, Carl and Mabel Porter, and her brothers, John Henry Braxton and Cecil Braxton. She is survived by he daughters, Courtney (Michael) Glaze, and Constance (Charles) Ballour; grandchildren, Cassandra (Jamar) Haynes-Lee, Michael Glaze, Jr., Christian (Michael) Carethers, David Ellison, Caleb Bush, Cameron Jacobs, and Charday Ballour; great grandchildren, Judah, Jael, and Jedidiah Haynes-Lee; and niece Caprina Braxton. We would like to offer a very special thank you to the staff of Capital City Hospice who took excellent care of our mother. Jehovah Witness Memorial service 9:30 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 29, 2017 in the chapel of DIEHL-WHITTAKER FUNERAL SERVICE, 720 E. Long St., where the family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until start of service. Interment Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
