Getreu James "Jim" P. Getreu, 87, of Canal Winchester. Born in Columbus, Ohio July 7, 1929. Survived by wife, Mary of 58 years; children, Michael (Shari) of Pickerington, Valerie (Michael) Yonnotti of Canal Winchester, Robert (Becky) of Granville, The Rev. David (Paula) of Circleville, and Mary (Kim) Hoffman of Canal Winchester/Pickerington; 11 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by father and mother Leo and Agnes Getreu, brother Daniel of Columbus, sisters MaryAnn Duncombe of Davenport, Iowa, Rose Galutia of Grandview, and brother Thomas of Pataskla. Retired Captain Columbus Fire Department having served 38 years. Graduate of Rosary High School Class of 1948. Parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Groveport and St. John XXIII, Canal Winchester where he attended daily Mass, Army Veteran, Member American Legion Post #677, FF VFW Auxiliary, C.W. Sertoma Member, past member of Knights of Columbus. Family and friends may visit 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Monday, June 12, at the DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME 650 W. Waterloo St. Canal Winchester, OH 43110 with a vigil service beginning at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church, 5684 Groveport Rd, Groveport, OH 43125 on Tuesday, June 13, at 10 a.m. Burial at St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Crohn's and Colitis Foundation-Central Ohio Chapter. Hey Dad, you can stop looking, your name is in the obituary now.
