James Wynkoop Obituary
Wynkoop, James
1950 - 2017
James Henry Wynkoop, a life-long resident of Canal Winchester, Ohio, passed away August 7, 2017 at Mt Carmel East hospital at age 67. Jim was born April 28, 1950 to Dr. Judson R. and Nova Mae Wynkoop of Canal Winchester, Ohio. Jim graduated from Canal Winchester High School and went on to complete his education at Ohio Dominican University. Jim's passion for food led him to work as a chef in various locations and to become a demonstration chef for Giant Eagle Foods. After his father passed, Jim filled the role of the community Santa Claus in Canal Winchester during the Christmas season, appearing at many seasonal events. Jim's commitment to Canal Winchester was illustrated by his service on the Canal Winchester City Planning and Zoning Committee and eventually as a City Council member. He was also active in the choir of Peace United Methodist Church in Pickerington. Jim is preceded in death by Sally, his wife of 23 years. Jim and Sally were active in the Canal Winchester community as well as Vaud-Villities in Columbus. Jim is survived by his two daughters, Sara and Lisa; brothers, Judson, Tim, Terry; step-son, Peter Vance Roberts; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service is being planned for a future date to be announced later.
