Jenkins The Rev. Jane Elizabeth Jenkins, died March 30, 2017, at Mount Carmel East Hospital. She was born in Baltimore, MD to John and Dorothy Seifert Jenkins on October 18, 1949. She is survived by a brother, Thomas (Beverly) Jenkins Sr.; niece, Bessie; and nephew, Thomas Jr., all of Baltimore, MD; canine, Zeke; and many dear friends. She graduated from Towson State University in 1971 with a B.S. in elementary education. She served as a teacher in the Baltimore City Public Schools (1971-1974). She later attended the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, receiving her Master of Divinity degree in 1978. On July 9, 1978, she was ordained to the ministry of word and sacrament in the Lutheran Church in America by Bishop Reuben Swanson at Messiah Lutheran Church in Ralston, Nebraska, her internship parish. She served as assistant pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church, Bloomington, IL (1978-1980) and pastor of Luther Memorial Church, Springfield, IL (1980-1994). Pastor Jenkins served on synod staff as assistant to the bishop of the Central/Southern Illinois Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America from 1994 to 2000. She joined the Trinity Lutheran Seminary faculty as director of contextual education, serving from 2000 until her retirement in 2014, due to health limitations arising from progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP). A memorial service will be held Sunday, April 9, at 3 p.m., at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 268 Hill Rd N., Pickerington, OH 43147, with meal to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Epiphany Lutheran Church, Pickerington, OH; CUREPSP, 30 E. Padonia Rd., Suite 201, Timonium, MD 21093; and Trinity Lutheran Seminary, 2199 East Main Street, Columbus, OH 43209 (checks payable to "Trinity Lutheran Seminary," designating the gift for "2 + 2 Internship Program" in the memo line).
