Janice Marie "Jan" Hammer Obituary
Hammer, Janice "Jan" Marie
1943 - 2018
Janice "Jan" Marie Hammer, age 74, passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 with her daughters by her side. She was born in Beckemeyer, Illinois on July 2, 1943 to William and Fern (Lanter) Kamler and grew up in St. Louis post WWII. Jan began a career in retail at WT Grant in Florissant, MO where she met and married her husband, Harold. She was proud of her 20+ year career as the manager of various national hotels and her years of volunteer work at St. Joe's in Wapakoneta. Known affectionately as Grammy or Mitme, Jan made a friend or created a family with everyone with whom she came in contact. The sun rose and set on her four grandchildren and she loved nothing more than cooking for them, cheering them on in sports, leadership and academics. She will be deeply missed by her friends, family, and all who knew her. She is survived by her mother, Fern Kamler; daughters, Dawn (David) Tabata and Faith (Kurt) Phillips; grandchildren, Devon (fiancée, Jacob) and Andrew Tabata and Emily and Ryan Phillips. She is also survived by her sister and best friend, Wanda Kamler (Gabe Laubacher); and brother, Norman Kamler (Noraleen). Her family will receive friends from 7-9pm, Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Schoedinger Worthington Chapel, 6699 N. High Street in Worthington (1/2 mile South of I-270). Mass of Christian Burial 10:30am Friday, February 23, 2018 at Church of the Resurrection, 6300 E Dublin Granville Rd, New Albany, OH 43054. Father Jerry Rodenfels, Celebrant. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Columbus Foundation Gifts of Kindness Fund, 1234 E. Broad St., Columbus, OH 43205.
