John Smith Jr. Obituary
Smith, Jr., John
John P. "Jack" Smith, Jr., passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2018. He was born May 14, 1950 to John and Alice Smith. He married his beloved wife, Andrea, on October 24, 1981, who preceded him in death. After serving our country in the United States Navy, Jack ultimately achieved a Master's Degree from The Ohio State University. Jack dedicated his life and service to helping those less fortunate in the community. A self-proclaimed "do-gooder", Jack held various supervisory positions at the Franklin County Board of Developmental Disabilities FCBDD). Additionally, together with Andrea, he was involved with the Franklin County Humane Society. His final work, prior to retirement, was developing an internship program with The Ohio State University's Social Services Master's Program and helping others continue in the field he was so proud of. Jack's other passions included traveling the world with Andrea and road racing with the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA). Together, they had the opportunity to travel the Caribbean and many other locales. Additionally, Jack was able to participate in SCCA Runoffs at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course making lifelong friends along the way. Their love of life and exploring it to the fullest together exemplified their dedication to one another regardless of endeavor. It was not so much a desire to compete for a prize, but to experience life and enjoy everything that came from being involved in the journey. Jack lived life with gusto and embodied his favorite motto, "It is what it is". In addition to his beloved Andrea, he was preceded in death by his brother James, and his parents. He is survived by his sister, Pat Albert; sister-in-law, Diane Zeyen; and brother-in-law, Michael Saenz. The spirit of Jack and Andrea and their legacy of giving will be memorialized by their sizable gifts to a number of non-profit organizations. A celebration of Jack's life will be held on Friday, March 30, 2018 at Brazenhead Irish Pub, 1027 West 5th Avenue, Columbus, OH 43212 from 2-5. Relaxed dress is appropriate and you encouraged to support the Cleveland Brown's in Jack's memory.
