Joseph I. Endry, age 88. died January 21, at St. Ann's Hospital. Joe is survived by his wife and soul mate. Ann (Sundale) Endry for 64 years; his children, Mark (Pat) Endry of CO, Paul Endry of NC, Carol (Mark) Buccilla of Pickerington and David Endry of CA; grandchildren, Emily, Amy, Nate Buccilla; and a special friend, Charlie Layman. Joe was born on May 21, 1929 in Weirton, WV to Joseph P. Endry and Sylvia Dalpiaz. He graduated from Weir High in 1947 as salutatorian, got his degree at WVU and received his master's degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He was a teacher and principal in WV from 1951-1965. In Reynoldsburg, Ohio he served as a principal for 14 years, assistant superintendent and superintendent for a total of 9 years. In 1989 to 2001, he served as Executive Director of Ohio Retired Teachers Association. He was president to the Association of State Retired Teachers Executives in 1999 to 2001. In 2001 to 2005 he was elected to the State Teachers Retired System and served as vice chair and Board Chairman for two years. He was inducted into the OCC Hall of Fame in 2009 for the development of the successful Ohio Capital Conference in 1979. He volunteered and served as president at Inniswood Gardens and was a Society Trustee. He also served on various boards in WV and Ohio throughout his career. Joe was a member of the Board of Trustees for the Virginia Gay Fund since 1991, served as VP, Executive Director, and currently Secretary/Treasurer. Virginia Gay's Will provided monthly grants for housing and care to assist retired women teachers of Ohio since 1905. He received many Distinguished Service Awards and Certificates in his outstanding leadership career. Joe was a strong, passionate advocate for students, teachers and schools. He was quiet, caring, and had a gentle nature as father and friend. He enjoyed golf, reading, politics, and card playing with his close friends. He recently became a member of St. John Neumann Parish in Sunbury. Friends may call Wednesday, January 24, 2018 from 1-3 and 5-7pm at the SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 N.
