Karen Anne (Holtzapfel) Hopper, age 51, passed away in Santa Cruz, CA. on Friday, July 28, 2017 at her home. Karen was born May 1, 1966 to Frank A. and Margaret C. (Crissinger) Holtzapfel in Columbus, Ohio. She graduated from Westerville North High School in 1984 with Honors. While in High School, Karen participated in the Thespian Unit as part of the crew and in March 1984 was Inducted in The Thespian Club. She attended Columbus State Community College where she obtained a Medical Laboratory Technology Degree December 17, 1987. She was employed by the Local Red Cross and the National Red Cross for 30 years. While in College Karen joined the U. S. Naval Reserves. Then in 1991 she was called to Active duty and served in Desert Storm at the same time as her husband, General served in the same war zone also in the U.S. Navy. Following the end of the war, Karen and General made their home in Norfolk, Va. and Jacksonville, Fl. After General's discharge, they made their home in Westerville, Ohio. Some years later they moved to Riverside, Iowa then Santa Cruz, Ca. Karen enjoyed all kind of crafts and decorated their home with unusual items. An Example is a tree branch used as a towel bar. She had an excellent singing voice and enjoyed spending time with all her family. Karen is survived by her husband of 30 years, General Baxter Hopper; sons, General Baxter Hopper III and Zachery Hopper of Columbus, Oh.; mothers, Margie (Crissinger) Holtzapfel of Westerville, Oh and Mary Howell of Lancaster, Ohio; brothers, Robert Holtzapfel(Noriko) of Tokyo, Japan, Allen Holtzapfel of Westerville and Hoppy and Cindy Hopper Lancaster, Ohio; sisters, Jennifer Pratt of Westerville, OH; Tammy (Hopper) and Brent Curtis of Hemingford, Nebraska, and Toni (Hopper) and Alex Green of Marietta, Georgia; uncles, David Crissinger, Tom and Nancy Crissinger, Paul and Peg Crissinger, Michael and Denise Holtzapfel, Steve and Tina Holtzapfel; aunts, Sarajane Mylott, Ann and Jim Dixon, Dob and John Parsons, Judy Holtzapfel, Donna and Fred Holifield, and Kathy and Eric Wharling; special nieces, Mary (Pratt) and Arron Aebie, Danielle (Pratt) and Michael Keeler; and nephew, Jeremey Pratt. In addition to several other nieces and nephews, and great-grand nieces and nephews. Karen was predeceased by her fathers Frank A. Holtzapfel and Hoppy Hopper, grandparents Albert and Anne Holtzapfel and Carl and Mary Crissinger and uncle Andrew Crissinger. Karen's wishes were to be cremated and buried with her father. A family, grave side service will be held at Resurrection Cemetery, 9571 North High Street, Lewis Center, at 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning, September 2, 2017. Karen wanted us to celebrate her life, her smile and the way in which she loved her family and friends. A Wake/Memorial remembering Karen's life will be held at her family's home on Saturday, September 2, 2017 from 1-5 p.m. at 6420 Thrasher Loop, Westerville, Ohio. Please stop by and remember Karen. Karen was a cancer survivor and most recently was dealing with Interstitial Lung Disease.
