Katherine Louise "Kay" (Schaller) Dukes Obituary
Dukes Katherine "Kay" Louise (Schaller) Dukes, age 91, of Worthington, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Sunrise Senior Living of Worthington Reminiscence (Alzheimer's) Home. Kay was born to the late Herman W. and Florence K. (Wirtz) Schaller on December 25, 1925 in Mansfield, Ohio. With an early strong interest in music, she was the pianist in her high school orchestras, accompanied other instrumentalists and vocalists and sang in several choirs. At Bowling Green State University, she was active in the Kappa Delta Sorority, Phi Alpha Chi accounting fraternity, and the school newspaper and yearbook. She received her degree in business accounting. In 1953 Kay married John "Jack" R. Dukes of Findlay, Ohio. She applied her degree at Isaly Dairy Co. in Mansfield, Central Millinery Co. in Columbus, Colorado College in Colorado Springs, and several small companies in Worthington, Ohio. After being a stay-at-home mom for their two children, she spent two years operating a motel in Findlay Ohio for which she was a director and the Secretary of the firm. She also worked part-time for many years with the Ackerman Credit Union in Columbus. Her volunteer work included being the Treasurer for many years, as well as serving as Shop Manager, Vice President and President at various times for the Worthington Thrift Shop, a cancer charity organization. She enjoyed numerous overseas business trips and personal travel with her husband, and was a charter member of the Worthington Songsters that formed in 1973 and also sang with the Worthington Ladies of Note, and The Harmonaires. Kay is preceded in death by her parents Florence K. and Herman W. Schaller, her brother Louis Schaller and grandson Clayton. She is survived by her husband, John "Jack" R. Dukes; children, Suzanne "Susie" L. McClain (Dennis), David A. Dukes (Kathy); grandchildren, Alec J. and Andrew J. Dukes. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, 515 High St. Worthington. A service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at the funeral home with interment to follow at Union Cemetery.
