Laureen Bland Dean entered this life on June 3, 1918 as the first born child of Henry C. Bland, Sr. and Claudia Harper Bland. She departed this life on October 13, 2017 after 99 years of selfless service to her Creator, her Church, her Family, and her Community. She was predeceased by her loving and devoted husband of 52 years, Adolphus F. Dean, brother Henry C. Bland, Jr., sister Dorothy Bland Minnis, and stepson Adolphus Neal Dean. Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her surviving children, Ellen L. (Martin) Williams and George H. (Dina) Dean; 11 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, and the two extraordinary women who cared for her during the last years of her life. Mrs. Dean graduated from Columbus East High School, in 1936, and from The Ohio State University, in 1940, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. She went on to obtain Master's degrees in Elementary Education and Guidance Counseling. She was an educator with Columbus Public Schools for 35 years, retiring in 1976. Mrs. Dean was a lifelong member of Shiloh Baptist Church, where she served in many capacities, including Deaconess. Additionally, she was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. for 78 years. Mrs. Dean was also a member of The Lunch Bunch, Jack and Jill, and other civic organizations throughout Columbus. Celebration of Life 1 p.m., Friday, October 20, 2017 at Shiloh Baptist Church, 720 Mount Vernon Ave., where visitation with the family begins at 11:30 am. Entombment Green Lawn Cemetery.
