Lorna (Blumenschein) Barone, 95, longtime Columbus resident, passed away surrounded by family on March 11, 2018 at Sunrise of Dublin, OH. Born on February 23, 1923 in Marysville, Ohio to the late Henry and Rosa (Streng) Blumenschein. Graduating from Bexley High School in 1941, Lorna joined the US Marine Corp in 1943 serving at Camp Lejeune, NC and Camp Pendleton, CA. Following the end of WWII, Lorna met returning US Marine veteran and her future husband of 50 years, Henry Virgil Barone and married in Long Beach, CA. Lorna worked for the Columbus Public Schools for 25 years and was proud of her Purple Belt in Karate. She was recognized for having donated several gallons of blood to the American Red Cross. She loved being outside making snowmen, sledding, biking, walking and tending her flowers, but most of all she loved her family and friends and known for her positive attitude and friendly smile. Preceded in death by her husband H. Virgil, parents and 8 siblings. Lorna is survived by her 5 children, Phyllis (Barone) and Tom Nicely of Columbus, Beverley (Barone) and Roger Pence of Worthington, Craig Barone of Columbus, Lyn (Barone) and Michael Dobyns of Wilmington, OH and Gary Barone of Denver, CO; her 12 grandchildren, Natalie (Pence) and Cliff Rich of Dublin, OH, Kyle and Kristi Mielke of Dublin, Tim Dobyns of Granville, OH, Brian and Jennifer Pence of Allen, TX, Bradley and Lisa Pence of Hilliard, Shelley (Pence) and Gary Ware of Dublin, OH, Traci (Barone) Villwock of Columbus, Melissa (Mielke) and Chad Perry of Toledo, OH, Steve and Rachel Dobyns of Cincinnati, OH, Marc and Lisa Barone of Port Orchard, WA, Jeff and Amy Dobyns of Nashville, TN, and Chris and Stefani Barone of Denver, CO; 31 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call Tuesday 5-8pm at the SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 N. High St. (1/2 mile south of 270), where a Celebration of Life is planned for Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at 12 noon.
