GOODBURN OSF, SR. M. SHARON
1929 - 2018
Sr. M. Sharon (Mary Margaret) Goodburn OSF passed away Feb. 23, 2018, at Mohun Health Care Center, Columbus. She was born on Jan. 31, 1929, in Akron OH to George L and Mary Goodburn of Columbus. Sr. Sharon chose to devote her life to serving God as a Sister of St. Francis of Penance and Christian Charity of Stella Niagara, NY, making her final profession of vows in 1951. She earned a bachelor's degree at Nazareth College, Rochester NY and an MBA at Xavier University, Cincinnati. Early in her professional career, Sr. Sharon worked in schools in New Jersey, New York and Ohio as well as the Education Office of the Diocese of Columbus. Sr. Sharon first taught at St. Francis DeSales High School from 1965-1969. In 1973, Sr. Sharon returned to St. Francis DeSales High School, where she found her true passion: teaching. An accounting, shorthand and typing/word processing instructor there for 25 years, she had the pleasure of teaching many future faculty members of St. Francis DeSales High School. After retiring as a teacher, she continued on for 16 more years doing administrative services for the school she loved. Her life was dedicated to empowering young people to discover their God-given talents and to share those talents with the world. Sr. Sharon was proceeded in death by her parents; brothers, George L Jr. and John Goodburn; and sister Roseann Babak. She is survived by brothers, Michael (Karen) and Paul (Marybeth) Goodburn, sister, Grace Hartman, sister-in-law, Sharon Goodburn, 25 nieces and nephews, numerous great & great-great nieces and nephews, and her St. Francis DeSales High School family and friends. Visitation will be on Friday, March 2, from 4-7 pm at Maeder Quint Tiberi Funeral Home, 1068 S High St., Columbus. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St Leo Church, 221 Hanford St, Columbus, on Saturday, March 3, at 10:30 am, Fr. Stash Dailey, Celebrant. Internment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. A special thanks to Mohun Health Center and Sisters of St. Leo Convent for their love, care and support during Sr. Sharon's long Illness.
