Marjorie Murfin Obituary
Murfin, Marjorie
1930 - 2018
Marjorie Ellyn Murfin, 87, passed away Monday, February 26, 2018. She was born June 15, 1930 in Clinton, Iowa to the late Harold and Helen (Shoesmith) Irwin. She grew up in DeWitt, IA and later earned her Master's degree in Library Science. She was a reference librarian and tenured at full professor and professor emeritus at The Ohio State University. Marjorie loved to read and she enjoyed researching her family's genealogy. She was very intellectually curious. She enjoyed learning about history and traveling to the places she read about with her husband. On her trips, she always looked for dolls that she could add to her collection. Family was very important to her and she enjoyed spending time with them. When her grandchildren were younger, she spent hours putting on puppet shows for them, using handmade marionettes that she inherited from her mother. Marjorie also enjoyed painting landscapes. She was passionate about decorating for each season or event. She was a caring and giving mother and grandmother. Marjorie was a proud Ohio State fan and season ticket holder from 1975-2017. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Frank. Marjorie is survived by her children, Brian (Vanessa Go) Murfin, Lynn Thomas, and Mark (Deb) Murfin; grandchildren, Dan (Elizabeth) Thomas, Joe (Chrissie) Thomas, Kristen (Joel) Bumgarner, Andrew (Jenny) Murfin, and Aaron (Bethany) Murfin; great grandchildren, Abigail, Ada, Amelia, Luke, Maddie, and Audrey Thomas, and Mia and Braylon Bumgarner; brother, James (Nancy) Irwin; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation will be held 10-11 a.m. Monday, March 5, 2018 at the SCHOEDINGER GROVE CITY CHAPEL, 3920 Broadway, Grove City, where funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider helping Marjorie's great-grandson Luke get his autistic service dog. https://sdwr.donordrive.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.personalCampaign&participantID=2596 Visit www.schoedinger.com to extend condolences or watch her tribute video.
