Martha Hoyt McCallum Obituary
McCallum Martha Hoyt McCallum stepped into eternity on Feb. 9, 2013, as a result of heart disease. Celebrating her 91st birthday on 1/22, Martha was thankful for her prolonged opportunity to serve Jesus, her Savior, and 1000s of friends she drew into His Love. Born in Kenya in 1922 to Quaker missionaries Fred and Alta Hoyt, Martha continued their pioneering spirit and Quaker compassion. Her life was prodigious. By 1946, she earned a BS and MA from Wheaton College, married WWII navy captain Dr. John McCallum, and raised four boys who became Christian ministers and missionaries. In 1971, during the Jesus Freak movement, Martha launched Layman's Challenge For Today, which became a church and missions movement known as Xenos Christian Fellowship. Martha is survived by husband, John and three boys, Bruce, Dennis and Keith. Youngest son Scot, met an untimely death in Russia in 2003. A memorial service will be held Sunday, February 18 at 1:30 p.m. at Xenos Christian Fellowship. Arrangements by SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL. Donations in Martha's honor should be made to the Humanitarian Aid and Development Fund at Xenos.
