Mary Ann Mahaney Obituary
Mahaney, Mary Ann
1936 - 2017
Mary Ann Mahaney, 81, of Dublin Ohio, passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2017. She was born on April 14, 1936 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Mary Josephine (O'Donnell) and George J. Spellman. She was a 1954 graduate of Upper Arlington High School. After attending Denison University, she graduated from The Ohio State University in 1958 and went on to teach in the Upper Arlington School System. Her time spent in college made her a life-long Buckeye fan and dedicated Pi Beta Phi. She married Joseph in 1959, and moved to New Haven, Connecticut for several years before they returned to Upper Arlington with their four children. Mary Ann was an active volunteer for many organizations in the community and at Our Lady of Victory Parish before beginning a second career at Highlights for Children Magazine where she retired as Director of Operations after 24 years of service. In retirement, she volunteered to teach English as a second language and at the Kobacker House for hospice care. She found great joy in her life-long friendships with her high school crew, Pi Phi sisters, and church family. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Jo and her husband, Joseph. Her love and humor will be missed by her children, Kathleen of Hilton Head, SC, James of Montclair, NJ, and Elizabeth (Kelly) of Cocoa Beach, FL; her grandchildren Eve, Jake, and Gabe; many nieces and nephews; and many friends. Family will receive friends at the Schoedinger Northwest Chapel, 1740 Zollinger Road, Upper Arlington, Ohio, 43221, on Friday, December 1 from 4-8 p.m. Her funeral Mass will be at Our Lady of Victory Parish on Saturday, December 2 at 11:00 a.m. with luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Homeless Fund at Our Lady of Victory Parish, 1559 Roxbury Road, Grandview, OH 43212.To share memories and offer condolences, please visit, www.schoedinger.com
