Miller, Mary Jeanette
1923 - 2017
Mary Jeanette (Purdy) Miller passed away on December 14, 2017, at the age of 94. Born in Spencerville, Ohio, on August 25, 1923, she was the only child of Earl and Myrtle (Prentice) Purdy. A graduate of Spencerville High School and Bowling Green State University, Mary taught home economics for several years and also engaged in volunteer work. On June 8, 1947, she married Ora John Miller, who predeceased her. She was a member of Phi Beta Gamma Alumnae Association, the Order of the Eastern Star, and Riverside United Methodist Church. She lived the final years of her life at Wesley Glen Retirement Community in Columbus. Mary is survived by three children, Beverly (David) Meyers, John (Vicki) Miller, and Robert Miller; two granddaughters, Elise (Sam) Walker and Taylor Miller; and a great grandson, Ford Walker; as well as caregiver and family friend, Patty Salter; and faithful Stephen Ministry volunteer and friend, Mickie Lockwood. Mary was proud that several of her students became teachers due to the example she set for them in the classroom. She loved to travel and liked warm climates. Aruba, Florida, and Hawaii were her favorite vacation destinations. The family would like to thank the caring and supportive staff of Assisted Living at Wesley Glen. A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 28, 2017, in the Auditorium at Wesley Glen, 5155 North High Street Columbus, OH 43214. Chaplin Dawn Swartz presiding. In lieu of flowers, Mary would have liked you to make a donation in her name to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society of America.
