Carpenter Melvin Larry Carpenter, 75, of Plain City, passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Dublin Methodist Hospital. Born October 26, 1941 in Brice, Ohio to the late Robert Carpenter and Violet (McCarty) McCoy. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he retired from the U.S. Post Office, Columbus Main Branch after 30 years of service. He was a Michigan fan mainly to get a rise out of his friends and family. Larry was known as a couch politician and an avid NASCAR fan. Blessed with the gift of gab, he enjoyed talking and sharing stories. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law Mervin and Irene Carpenter. Larry is survived by his wife, Helen (Welch) Carpenter, with whom he just celebrated 51 years of marriage; sons, Joseph and James; grandchildren, Aaron Carpenter and Brittany Carpenter; with one great granddaughter due in September; brothers, Marvin (Betty) Carpenter and Morris (Chris) McCoy. Visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, May 20, 2017 at FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 202 E. Main St. (St. Rt. 161 W.), Plain City, where funeral service will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday.
