Michael Lee Schoonover, a loving husband and father, age 67, of Powell, Ohio, born May 12, 1950, passed away surrounded by family and friends August 26, 2017 after a short battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by parents William Leo and Dolores Joan (Born) Schoonover of Portsmouth, Ohio. He is survived by wife, Barbara and daughters, Carly and Kara and daughters, Amy Foster (Carl) and Becky Swartz (Mark); and grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Taylor, and Elyshawa; and siblings, William (Mary Beth) Schoonover, Robert (Vicki) Schoonover, Elaine (Melvin) Apadoca, and Jean (Dr. Jay Egolf) Schoonover-Egolf. The family is so grateful for their time with him and he is dearly missed. Mike graduated from Portsmouth Notre Dame High School. He received a bachelor's degree in accounting from Ohio University. He had an extensive career as a CPA, including starting his own company, Schoonover Boyer and Associates in 1990, which he later sold to Clark Schaefer Hackett in 2014. He was involved with numerous professional and charitable organizations with the National Kidney Foundation and Cozy Cat Cottage being closest to his heart. He was passionate about researching his family's genealogy, enjoyed coaching all of his daughters in softball, and was an avid sports fan, especially the Columbus Blue Jackets. The family will receive friends Thursday, August 31, from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. in the narthex of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 10700 Liberty Road South, Powell, Ohio. A funeral Mass will be held Friday, September 1, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Contributions may be made to Cozy Cat Cottage or the Ohio Historical Society in Mike's memory.
