Mildred Lanning Obituary
Lanning Mildred "Mid" Lanning, 92, of Gahanna, passed away Monday, October 14, 2013. She was born July 10, 1921 in McCuneville, OH and attended New Straitsville Perry H.S. Mid was a WPA recreation leader, a Junior High kitchen worker, and worked at the Godman Shoe Factory as well as a wonderful housekeeper for her family. She attended the Maize Manor United Methodist Church in Columbus where she was involved in the Love Circle. In her younger years, Mid was a den mother for the Cub Scouts. She loved to dance because her husband played trumpet with big bands. Mid sewed like a dream. She even made prom, wedding, and bridesmaid dresses. She has always loved horses as she helped her dad with farm work using a team of horses to plow corn, pitch hay, etc. Mid baked the best bread and cinnamon rolls and her family will always remember the smells from the kitchen. Preceded in death by her parents William and Anna Gaver, husband William Lanning, great-grandson Connor Beery, son-in-law Merl Beery, and siblings Stanley Gaver and Eleanor Hammond. Mid will be missed by her loving children, James (Barbara) Lanning and Lois Beery; grandchildren, John (Genie) Speckman, Mathew (Amy) Speckman, Skott (Jennifer) Lanning, Scott Mans, Kristy Mans, Kevin Beery, and Kimberly Beery; great-grandchildren, Travis and Emma Beery, Ayden and Sebastian Lanning, Sarah and Joel Speckman, Courtney Speckman-Meyers, and Zachary, Brayden, and Grayson Mans; and many loving friends. Family will receive friends Wednesday, October 16, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST CHAPEL, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd. (at Beecher Rd.), Gahanna, OH. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 17, 2013 at the Messiah Lutheran Church, 1200 Waggoner Rd., Reynoldsburg, OH 43068, Pastor Karl L. Hanf, officiating. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the New Lexington Cemetery in New Lexington, OH.
