Matthies Nancy Matthies, age 63, died unexpectedly at home on May 2, 2017. Nancy grew up in Richmond Heights, OH graduating from RHHS in 1971. She proudly played piccolo and flute in the marching and concert bands. She worked in graphic design before employment at Higbee's at Severance Center. She married and moved to Columbus with her husband Douglas Matthies in 1980. Nancy worked at JC Penney (catalog and store) at Northland Mall for 10 years and after as a cashier supervisor at The Andersons General Store on Sawmill Rd. She last worked at Drug Emporium at Graceland in the pharmacy. Nancy is preceded in death by her parents Art and Betty Brine, along with many cats (and later dogs) throughout the years, starting with "Kitty" while a child. Ajax, Charlie, Kingsford, Shelby, Chester, Chloe, Chico and Cleopatra enjoyed Nanc's "Crazy Cat Lady's" motherly ways. Nanc (do not call her Nancy-you'll receive a "what-y?" response) became a dog mom with Cavalier King Charles Spaniels with Clancy, then Clayton, Caitie, Clifford and Carly. Survived by her beloved husband, Douglas of Worthington, OH; sister, Cheryl James (Michael) of Streetsboro, OH; and her many beloved "fur kids," Cubby, Coco, Caramia, Calliope, Cady and Cody. Nanc had a passion and true gift for gardening, transforming the grassy lawn of her home with perennials, annuals and rare plants of all kinds. She loved to watch nature grow and nurture each plant. She decorated her garden with some quirky, but always practical delights. Nanc loved the original series "Star Trek" and then years later "Star Trek: The Next Generation." There will be no service or viewing hours. Private family inurnment. Nancy was a sixty-year juvenile, type-1 diabetic and an organ donor. The family wishes to thank close friend, Jane Reida of Worthington, along with Fresenius Kidney Care and DaVita dialysis centers. Please make any donations to the of Central Ohio.
