Obituary Condolences

Wheeler Neil Lee Wheeler, Sr., LCDR, USN, Ret., was born in Uniontown, PA on October 12, 1929, the son of Albert S. Wheeler and Pauline (Speelman) Wheeler. He died on May 8, 2017, at OSU Wexner Medical Center, Columbus, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father Charlie Plum, brothers Warren Wheeler, Darwin Plum, and sister Evelyn (Willard) Savage. He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Carol; sister, Lois (Freddie) Boggess; son, Neil Wheeler, Jr. (Karen) of Lewis Center, OH; daughters, Nita (Jon) Hanson, Neva (David) Fannin; and son, Nathan (Kerri) Wheeler of Reynoldsburg, OH. He is also missed by 11 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. During his 28 years of naval service, Neil was stationed in Illinois, Tennessee, California, Nevada, Texas, Florida, Maryland, Hawaii, and Rhode Island. He served overseas on Guam, Saipan, Japan, the Philippines, and Vietnam. He also served aboard the USS Curtis, USS Wasp, USS Ticonderoga, USS Ranger, and USS Kitty Hawk. After his naval retirement, Neil was employed by Purolator Courier Service as a courier. He also worked at the Auto Auction, the Ohio State Fair, the Home and Garden Show, the Sport and RV Show, the Farm Science Review, and other expositions at the Ohio State Fair Grounds as well as other venues. He and his wife have been active members of Reynoldsburg Baptist Church for many years where he served as a Sunday School teacher, usher, and on various committees.
