Parrill "Ray" Hertz, 90, went to be with his Heavenly Father and beloved wife of 68 years, Rita, on December 10, 2017. Born June 28, 1927, he was preceded in death by his wife Rita, parents Ralph and Roxy (Parrill) Hertz, brothers Carl and Ralph, and sisters Geraldine, Virginia, Esther and Wanda, baby son Douglas and grandchild Deitra Hertz. He was survived by children, Dwight (Debbie) Hertz, Susan (Steve) Scruggs, Roxanna (Mike) Salisbury, Steve (Bev) Hertz, and Linda Garrison; grandchildren, Dwight 'Tex" Hertz, Justin Murphy, Faith Murphy, Jeremy Salisbury, Jill Salisbury, Jessica Salisbury, Lauren Hertz, James Garrison, Brad Nichols; and 12 great grandchildren along with multitudes of nieces and nephews. Parrill was a celebrated athlete at Central High School. His high school attendance was interrupted while serving in the Navy toward the end of World War II. Upon being honorably discharged on July 30, 1946 with a World War II Victory Medal and an American Area Campaign Medal, he returned to Central High School and received his diploma in 1947. He retired from Battelle Memorial Institute in 1994 with 45 years of service. Parrill had a strong love for God, family, his fellow man and the "Buckeyes". His union with Rita was cherished by him. Their love and admiration were mutually shared. Parrill was a member of the Battelle Senior Association. Parrill donated his body to OSU for research as he was one of the first survivors of the "Whipple" surgical procedure. The family will be celebrating Parrill's life with a private gathering.
