Rachel Buchanan Timmons of First Community Village died Thursday, December 28, 2017. She was born in Chicago, Illinois, November 4, 1930 to Oliver and Rachel Core Buchanan. Survived by loving husband of 65 years David; son, George H. Timmons of Upper Arlington; daughter, Elizabeth (Duane) Garland of Eugene, Oregon; brother, Robert Buchanan of Santa Maria, California; grandchildren, David F. Timmons, Miriam Garland and Lane (Sarah) Garland; sisters-in-law, Georgianna Roberts and Madelon Timmons; cousin, Sarah Peters and 5 nieces. Rachel was a graduate of University High School and The Ohio State University (cum laude) where she was a member of Pi Lambda Theta education honorary and president of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church since 1954 where she served as a ruling elder. She was active in Twig 116 of Children's Hospital, Buckeye Ranch Service Board, Junior League of Columbus, Conestoga of Ohio Historic Connection, Franklin Park Conservatory sustaining board, governing boards of Life Care Alliance and Crichton Club, Pleasure Guild, University School Alumni Association, Scioto Country Club and Nor' Easter Yacht Club on Catawba Island. Rachel was a totally devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. She cherished close friends and mourned those who passed before her. She enthusiastically worked with David in planning and building their long-time Upper Arlington home. They explored all the states, many in a camper with their children and later with car club friends in their vintage Rolls-Royce and Bentley. Rachel and David travelled to over 50 countries returning several times to the United Kingdom. Rachel took pride in her Scottish heritage and also her Ohio and Texas pioneer ancestors. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 2070 Ridgecliff Rd. Columbus, OH 43221. with Dr. Tracy R. Keenan officiating. The family will receive friends at church following the service. Private interment at Green Lawn Cemetery at a later date.
