Raymond Epperly Obituary

EPPERLY Raymond E. Epperly, 83, passed away April 21, 2008, in Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born in Radford, Va., he was the son of the late Raymond E. Epperly Sr. and Faye Christie Epperly. He was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Ray graduated from West Virginia University in 1950 with a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He retired from Jeffrey Manufacturing Co. (later Dresser Industries) after 35 years, working as an engineer both in Columbus, Oh. and Greenville, S.C. After retirement he worked as an engineer for CRSSirrine. He honorably served our country during World War II as a medic in the U.S. Army, serving in five countries in Europe, Northern Ireland, England, France, Belgium and Germany. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Dolores Bruce Epperly; a son, Philip Epperly and wife, Cindy of Pataskala, Oh.; a daughter, Kathryn Nethers and husband, Larry of Greencastle, Ind.; sister, Sarah Fortney and husband, Ernest of Columbus, Oh.; a brother, Warren Epperly and wife, DeEtta of Williamstown, W.Va.; his mother-in-law, Madaline Sholl of Pataskala, Oh.; 6 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Ray was predeceased by his favorite cousin The Rev. Harry B. Christie in February of this year. Visitation will be held 2:30-3:45 p.m. Thursday at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Greenville, S.C., on April 24, 2008, with funeral service following at 4 p.m., conducted by Rev. W. Michael Bruce and Rev. Carol Allison. Burial will follow at a later date at Glen Rest Memorial Estate, Reynoldsburg, Oh.
