Obituary Condolences

Sprague Rex Norman Sprague, passed away peacefully May 13, 2017 at Grady Memorial Hospital in Delaware, Ohio after a brief illness. Rex was born on August 24, 1934 in Bowling Green, Kentucky to Clarence and Juanita Hill Sprague. He graduated from Westerville High School, Otterbein College and Ohio State University. While attending Otterbein he was a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. While at Ohio State and after college he served in the Air National Guard from 1957 to 1961. With a degree in civil engineering Rex's first job was with Burgess and Niple Engineering firm in Columbus. In January of 1961 he accepted the position of City Engineer for the City of Delaware. He remained in that position until 1975 when he became the Assistant Director of the Ohio EPA. In 1984 he joined American Municipal Power-Ohio as the Director of Special Events. Then from 1992 until retirement, he served as the Assistant Economic Director for Buckeye Power. Soon after moving to Delaware, Rex married Jane Burson Adelmann of McArthur, Ohio. They shared 56 happy and fulfilling years of marriage. Rex is survived by his wife, Jane of Delaware; his daughter, Cindy Sprague and her husband, Paul Lyons; his son, Scott and his wife, Kerry Seyffer-Sprague; five grandchildren, Kristen Geer, and her fiance', Zach Zeune, Danner Seyffer-Sprague, Burson Sprague, Devin Sprague- Lyons and Dylan Sprague-Lyons; two great-grandchildren, Ronan and Torin Zeune. Rex was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Jennie Sprague Wyatt Bell, his nephew James Wyatt and twin grandsons Jordan and Jeremy Sprague-Lyons. Rex had many hobbies including golf, skiing, sport cars, stained glass and travel. He especially enjoyed working with his hands on projects around the home and creating an assortment of clever and unusual items. Contributions in Rex's memory may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Delaware. The family will receive friends Saturday, May 20, 2017 from 2-5 p.m. at the ROBINSON FUNERAL HOME at 32 W. Winter St. in Delaware. A memorial celebration will be held on Sunday, May 21 at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church at 73 W. Winter St. in Delaware with Pastor Deborah Patterson officiating. Parking will be available in the church lot for both Saturday and Sunday. Burial will be Monday, May 22 at 11:30 a.m. at Elk Cemetery in McArthur, Ohio.
