Richard E. Schimmoller Obituary
Schimmoller, Richard E.
1929 - 2017
Dr. Richard E. Schimmoller, passed away at home on July 13, 2017. Dick was born in Dayton, Ohio, April 4, 1929, to Raymond Louis and Anna Mae (Hartley) Schimmoller. He graduated from Chaminade High School in Dayton in 1946, and attended the University of Dayton and Kent State University. After serving as a medic in the US Air Force during the Korean conflict, he attended the Chicago College of Osteopathy from which he received his D.O. degree in 1960. Following his internship in Los Angeles he practiced medicine briefly in Camdenton, Missouri, before moving to Columbus where he had a private practice for thirty years. In those early years in Columbus, Dick volunteered as a doctor at the Ohio State fair and often gave flu shots at the Armory. Later he served as a preceptor to OU medical students at his own practice, and after retiring from private practice, continued as a preceptor to newly graduated physicians. Dick loved music, especially Count Basie, and was a great dancer. He loved to play golf, enjoyed reading and was an avid TV watcher. He was a charter member of Worthington Hills CC and has been a member of Brookside GCC for fifty years. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Edward and Donald, and his infant son Kurt. Dick is survived by his wife of 60 years, Gay, and their three daughters, Terry and Cristy Schimmoller and Becky (Schimmoller) Miles. Also surviving are his sister-in-law, Virginia Schimmoller (Donald, deceased) of Pasadena, California, and their children and grandchildren; as well as his brother-in-law, Bruce Allen (Joy, deceased) of Columbus, and their children and grandchildren. The family wishes to acknowledge the Viaquest Hospice doctors, nurses and aides who gave such good service, and thank all his caregivers--among them Renee and Chris, and especially Missy--for their kindness and loving care. Friends may call between 2-5 p.m., Sunday, July 16, at RUTHERFORD FUNERAL HOME, 450 W. Olentangy Street, Powell, Ohio 43065. Private services will be observed at a later date. Please take a moment to raise a glass and remember Dick in your own way.
