Richard Ennes Dunkel Obituary
Dunkel Richard Ennes Dunkel, of Upper Arlington, died peacefully Sunday morning September 15 2013, at his home surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his son David and his brother John. Richard (Dick) was born October 4, 1928 in Columbus, Ohio to Evelyn (Ennes) and Richard Newton Dunkel. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Beverley Prentiss Dunkel; son, Richard (Nancy) Dunkel; daughter-in-law, Christine Adamcak; grandchildren, Richard Ryan Dunkel, Jordan Prentiss Dunkel and Sean William Dunkel; nieces, Evvie (Rick) Heilbrunn, Jane Dunkel, Kim (Phil) Powell; and sister-in-law, Ann Prentiss. Dick graduated from University School in 1947 and attended Ohio State University. Dick's sales career included positions at John H. Pumphrey Co. and Bard, Inc. He retired from Thomas W. Ruff and Co. in 1986 as Vice President of Sales. He was an active member of the University Club of Columbus, Young Businessmen's Club, Tri-Village Lions, and a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Upper Arlington. Dick's greatest pleasure was spending time with family and friends, often in combination with some of his favorite hobbies which included sailing, riding his motorcycle, camping, scuba diving, and cooking. He also had a passion for travel, and he and Bev often took their children and grandchildren on vacations to Europe and the Caribbean. They also enjoyed camping trips with their grandchildren in their travel trailer, and took delight vacationing with friends as well. Dick and Bev celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on September 2nd. He will be missed by many and was loved by all. The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to Homecare Assistance and OhioHealth Hospice for their professional and caring service. Family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, September 20, 2013 at the SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd., Columbus, OH 43221. A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 2151 Dorset Rd., Columbus, OH 43221. The Rev. Paul St. Germain officiating.
