Olson Richard S. Olson, MD, age 83, Saturday, April 15, 2017. Born December 6, 1933 at home in Fairport Harbor, Ohio. 1952 Fairport Harbor Harding High School graduate and salutatorian. Starting center on the Cleveland Plain Dealer's Mythical Class B Football State Champions 1950. Preceded in death by parents Fannie I. and John A. Olson, both of whom were Finnish immigrants from Oulu, Finland, and whose dream was fulfilled when their three children all graduated from college; sister Ingrid E. Vargo and brother Elmer J. Olson. Survived by loving wife of 60 years, Marcia I. (Urban) Olson; daughters, Carrie L. (Steve) Clay of Powell, OH, Deborah K. Pfaffinger Buchanan of Hilliard, OH, Shari L. Bucklin (Jim) Webber of Bernville, PA; and sons, Richard S. (Shelly) Olson, Jr. of Delaware, OH and Michael J. (Maria) Olson of Marysville, OH; grandchildren, Bill and Courtney Pfaffinger, Faryn and Samantha Buchanan, Jeremy, Derek and Alexandra Clay, Michael (Hannah) Bucklin, Mick, Megan and Molly Olson, Mitchell Olson and Olivia and Jack Webber; and great granddaughters, Mallory and Meredith Bucklin. B.S. cum laude pre-medical graduate and Phi Beta Kappa, The Ohio State University, 1955. Medical degree from The Ohio State University, 1959. Intern 1959-60, White Cross Hospital, Columbus, OH. Resident in ophthalmology, OSU 1960-63. Captain, U.S. Army Hospital, Fort Leonard Wood, MO, 1963-65. Sole practitioner of ophthalmology 1965 to 1996 at 1495 Morse Road, Columbus, OH. Joined Northwest Eye Surgeons, Upper Arlington in 1996 and retired in 1998. Honored as "Anchorman" by Delta Gamma Alumni for contribution to their preschool visual screening program. Avid tennis player, boater, fisherman and OSU Buckeyes fan. Any memorials may be made to the Dept. of Ophthalmology or Dept. of Athletics, The Ohio State University, Columbus, OH or to the Fairport Harbor Harding High School Class of 1952 Scholarship. Private memorial to be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to O. R. WOODYARD NORTHWEST.
