Robert C. Formet Sr., age 97, passed on to his heavenly home on Saturday, April 14, 2018. He was born on October 17, 1920 in Canton, OH to the late John and Irene (Peshel) Formet. Bob attended Youngstown College and Kent State University. He served 4 years in World War II in the 5th Air Force in the South Pacific (New Guinea) as Staff Sargent. Bob worked at Copperweld Steel in Warren, OH for 20 years, managed a Clarkins Store for 4 years, and owned and operated RCF Decorating in Canton, OH for 25 years. Bob took up acrylic painting later in life, prolifically producing beautiful landscapes and idyllic settings, now adorning their walls and those of appreciative family members. He had a lifelong passion for fishing, including adventurous trips to Quebec, Canada, and stocking the ponds of the Gramercy Place community, where he served as the first resident Director of the association Board. Devout Christians, Bob and Helen actively practiced their faith at several beloved churches, including the Mountains Community Church which they co-founded in Lake Lure NC, and their current place of worship, Northwest Chapel in Dublin OH. Bob will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Helen of Dublin, OH; son, Robert C. Formet Jr. of Cape Coral, FL; step-sons, David Brehm (Jennifer) of Columbus, OH and Stacy Brehm (Deborah) of Carroll, OH; grandchildren, Alicia Powell and Chad Formet (Samantha) both of Canton, OH; step-grandchildren, Brittainy Estrada (Ramiro) of Del Mar, CA, Todd Brehm of Oceanside, CA, Natalie Brehm of Columbus, OH and Riley Brehm of Cincinnati, OH; greatgrandchildren, Celeste Powell of Port Clinton, OH, Aiden Powell of Canton, OH and Beau and Max Formet of Canton, OH; step-great-grandchildren, Tyler Kersey of Del Mar, CA, Lucas and Claira Estrada of Del Mar, CA; and former daughter-in-law, Sandra T. Gammill (Billy) of Canton, OH. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his first wife Geraldine Eddy, brother John Francis, and step-son Wayne Brehm (Phyllis). Family will receive friends 4-6 PM on Friday, April 20, 2018 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road, Upper Arlington, Ohio 43221. Memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Northwest Chapel Grace Brethren Church, 6700 Rings Road, Dublin, Ohio 43016. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Northwest Chapel, www.northwestchapel.org.
