Robert Foster Obituary

FOSTER Robert Walters Foster, died peacefully Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at First Community Village in Columbus Ohio. "Bob" as he was affectionately known to friends and family, served his country and state for over four decades. A stint in the United States Army (82nd Airborne) was followed by a distinguished career as a United States Secret Service Agent. Best remembered as a member of the Kennedy children's detail. Bob also flourished in the field. He retired from the Secret Service as the Special Agent in Charge of the Columbus office in 1978. Subsequently, Bob was appointed United States Marshal for the Southern District of Ohio, a post which he held from 1981-1994. Bob then served as Sergeant of Arms for the Ohio General Assembly until he retired from government service in 2001. A graduate of The Ohio State University and member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity, Bob is survived by his brother, Birchard "Bo" Foster; his former wife, Margaret Surbeck Foster; three children, Katherine Foster Parramore of Louden County, VA, Robert Jr. (wife, Erin) of Dallas, TX, and Andrew (wife, Kathryn) of Princeton Junction, NJ; six grandchildren; and several cousins including, Richard Foster of Upper Arlington. Memorial Service in his hometown of Worthington, will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, 515 High Street, Worthington, OH 43085 where friends may call one hour prior to service.
