Roma Brown Obituary
Brown, Roma
1952 - 2017
After a tenacious two-year battle with pancreatic cancer, Roma Elizabeth Brown, 65, finally succumbed to the disease November 30 at Kobacker House. Born September 23, 1952 in Coldwater, Ohio, to Corny and Phyllis Otting, Roma was a 1970 graduate of Minster High School. She received her degree in elementary education from The Ohio State University in 1974. Roma embarked on a 32 year career as an elementary teacher at Stockbridge, Trevitt, and John Burroughs elementaries within the Columbus City Schools. She was named a Martha Holden Jennings scholar in 1984 for her excellence in elementary education. After two years of retirement she became bored and followed her love of teaching reading to Brookwood Community Learning Center where she was a reading intervention specialist until her second retirement in 2015. Roma's other passions in her life besides teaching and reading were spending time in her gardens, camping, taking care of her grandkids, and kicking back listening to some good rock n roll. She was also an extreme fan of The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, the Cleveland Browns, Cincinnati Reds, and the Buckeyes. Roma is survived by her husband of 40 years, Lou, her children Chris (Jennifer), Scott (Melissa), and Erin Brown, grandchildren Camden, Layla, Jackson, Emerson, and Parker, brother Scott, sister Cornelia, aunts, uncles, and a myriad of cousins. In keeping with her selfless personality she was a donor to the Central Ohio Lions Eye Bank. The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 6 from 4-8 p.m. at Maeder-Quint-Tiberi Funeral Home, 1068 S. High St. Columbus. Mass of Christian Burial Thursday, December 7, 10:00 a.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church, 221 Hanford St. Columbus. Fr. Kevin Lutz, Celebrant. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Roma's memory to OhioHealth Hospice, whose care was indispensable, these past months, or The Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research.
