A gathering of friends and family celebrating the life of Scott Allen Nelson, age 55, of Columbus will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 22 at The Newark Chapel of HENDERSON-Van ATTA-STICKLE FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICE, 59 North Fifth Street, Newark. Scott passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at his residence in Columbus. He was born June 13,1962 in Newark, Ohio to the late Richard A. and Gladys (Allen) Nelson. Scott was an avid Cincinnati Reds and Bengals fan. He loved to go to the Kentucky Derby, and attended for 15 years. Scott loved meeting new people, he never met a stranger. Scott was once the owner of Scotland Yard lawn care and was a graduate of Newark High School class of '80. He also received several degrees in college including one from Franklin University. He is survived by his stepmother, Jo Nelson of Newark; his girlfriend of 8 years, Lisa Reece of Columbus; two first cousins, Clare Garrett of Gaithersburg, MD and Stephen Borjes of Summerfield, NC; second cousins, Angie Phillips of Davidson, NC, Patrick Garrett of Huntington Beach,CA, Matthew Borjes of Lexington, SC and Melissa Kemmerer of Reston, VA; his very special pets: dog, Wilbur and cats, Batman and Otis; and many close friends in Newark, Columbus, Florida and Buckeye Lake. Scott was preceded in death by his father Richard, and mother Gladys. Family and friends may call one hour prior to the service from 10-11 a.m. at The Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service. Friends and family are asked to share photos and memories of Scott during the service. Memorial contributions may be made in Scott's name to the Licking County Humane Society, 825 Thornwood Drive, Heath, Ohio 43056. Scott loved animals and would spend time at the shelters playing with the animals. A Wake Service will be scheduled sometime in September to say goodbye at Buckeye Lake, those plans will be announced at a later date.
