Landis, Shirley
1934 - 2017
Shirley Ann Landis, of Lancaster Ohio, passed away on July 08, 2017. Born in Cedarville, Ohio on June 19, 1934 to Helen K. Powers, Shirley graduated from Cedarville High School, received her undergraduate degree in music from Ohio Wesleyan University and her Master's degree from The Ohio State University. She was an accomplished organist and pianist and taught music in public school systems in Northeastern Ohio including the Worthington School district. Upon retirement she settled in Lancaster, Ohio. She had a passion for music, gardening, crafting, and her beloved dogs. She could be found with a number of faithful sidekicks over the years ranging from a Welsh Corgi named "Chatty" to a Jack Russell Terrier named "Molly". She traveled extensively and enjoyed entertaining friends at her home with her keen wit and spirited sense of humor. Shirley achieved the honorary status of Master Gardener and cultivated beautiful gardens at home and for friends. With her passion for music and gardening, she partnered with the founders of the annual LilyFest in Hocking Hills to celebrate all that she loved; arts, crafts, music, and gardens. As an advisor to the historic Sherman House in Lancaster, Ohio, she helped cultivate their numerous gardens and held educational programs for young students to impart her love of gardening and create future generations of gardeners. Shirley is survived by her two sons Christopher (Ellen) of Houston, Texas and Daniel (Susan) of Chesterfield, Missouri; dear Grandmother of Madison Landis Rotter (Chuck), of Ballwin, Missouri and Taylor Landis of San Francisco, California, and Great Grandmother of Brock Rotter of Ballwin, Missouri. Visitation will be held at Sheridan Funeral Home located at 222 S. Columbus Street, Lancaster, Ohio on July 21, 2017 between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. A private interment will be held on July 22, 2017.
