Shirley Milburn Caronis, age 82, passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2018. Shirley was born in Columbus, Ohio on October 21, 1935 to the late Arthur and Ruth (Harrop) Milburn. Also preceded in death by her beloved husband George Caronis and daughter Melissa Caronis. Shirley went to Upper Arlington High School where she was a cheerleader. She went on to earn a BS with an accounting major from The Ohio State University, where she served as president of her sorority, Delta Gamma. After college Shirley and George married on June 7, 1958 and were married 52 years until his time of passing in 2010. In their later years, George and Shirley moved to Florida. In Florida she found a passion with volunteering at Mease Hospital, where she put in over 28,500 hours and served as president of its auxiliary from 1999 to 2004. In 2008 they moved back to Columbus where she continued her volunteer work but this time with Riverside Methodist Hospital. Shirley was an avid Buckeye Fan and had a passion for The Ohio State University. This passion helped lead to her starting a fund to help keep the Victory Bell Ringing at The Horseshoe. Shirley will be greatly missed by her loving son, Kevin Caronis; sister, Tammy (Milburn) Turner; granddaughter, Laci Caronis; grandson, Austin Caronis and great-grandson, Jakobi Caronis. Family will receive friends from Noon-1pm on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road, Upper Arlington, Ohio 43221, where a memorial service will follow at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the George and Shirley Caronis Fund to keep the Victory Bell Ringing (Fund #641139), c/o: OSU Foundation, 1480 West Lane Ave, Columbus, Ohio 43221.
