Thomas G. Wagenbrenner (a.k.a. Dad, Dad II, Pops, Sarge, Daddy Wags, Poppie Tom and $hi*can), 80 years old, formerly of Columbus, Ohio residing in the Lake Travis area of Austin, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Saturday, February 24, 2018 at The James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute at The Ohio State University. Tom was born on September 22, 1937 in Columbus, Ohio to Leo and Marguerite (Weis) Wagenbrenner. He graduated from St. Charles Preparatory High School in 1956, attended Xavier University and graduated from The Ohio State University. On June 13, 1959 he married Kay Evelyn (Allen), raising 5 children together until her passing on February 1, 1989. On January 7, 1990 he married Judith Eileen (Tussing). Tom began his professional life in advertising and then went to work in banking at Ohio Federal Savings and Loan. He left banking at age 40 and found his passion in real estate. He started at Ohio Equities and after several successful years Tom and his brother Mike Wagenbrenner became partners in The Wagenbrenner Company, a real estate business. In 1976 they formed their investment company, Wagbros with their brother Tad to purchase the Bank Block, today a historical landmark, in Grandview Heights and continued investing in properties leading the revitalization of the Grandview Ave. strip. Tom served as President of the City Club, was a member of the Jaycees, a member of the Childhood League with his wife Kay, and was an avid Buckeye fan. Tom is survived by his wife, Judy; son, Scott (Beth), daughter, Karen, son, Blair Thomson (Donna), daughter, Amy Sappington (Ray), son, Mark (Leah), son, Eric (Amy) and son, Craig (Kelly). He has 21 grandchildren, Andrew, Skye, Ryan, Nicholas, Rachel, Molly, Tess, Erika, Lynzie, Jillian, Marlowe, Hudson, Luke, Cole, Maggie, Katie, Reid, Griffin, Annie, Christian and Caden. Also survived by siblings, Tad (Joanne), Ann (Dave) Hancock, and Mike (Polly); and brother-in-law, Charles Hanson. Preceded in death by sister Mary Lee Hanson. Calling hours will be Friday, April 13, 2018 from 3-7 pm at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd., Columbus, Ohio 43221. A service will be held in the Schoedinger Chapel on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 4 pm. A celebration of Tom's life will follow immediately after at Juniper Rooftop in the Smith Bros. Building, 580 N. 4th Street, Columbus, Ohio 43215.
