Vincent Segieth Obituary
Segieth, Vincent
1928 - 2018
Vincent J. Segieth, 89, died Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at the Kobacker (hospice) House after a long struggle with repertory ailments. He leaves his wife of 62 years, Brigitte "Ruth" Segieth: his sons, Roland, Harold; daughter-in-law, Tammy; grandchildren, Matt, Corey, Dylan; and many close friends. Born in Marienwerder, West Prussia (now Kwidzyn), Vincent struggled with famine as a young teenager during and after WWII. At the age of 18, he risked his life by crossing East Germany in order to join the western world. Vincent found work as a farmhand and later as a painter's apprentice salvaging and mixing the materials needed to restore church cathedrals and other bombed structures. Sponsored by Walter Meiden in 1953, Vincent made Columbus Ohio his new home. Thomas Kaplin noticed his talent; eventually Vincent received the title of Art Director at Columbus Outdoor Advertising later known as Donrey Outdoor. Some of the billboard sized mural projects he directed featured local news teams, the winking Kahiki lady, and the Baby in Rod's Western Palace boots who had a moving diaper to cover his bottom. He passed on the gift of sponsorship by supporting graduates of the CCAD. Skills passed on to Mark Sullivan were used to paint colossal scenes in the Revenge of the Jedi and the Star Wars saga. Vincent was deeply interested in world history. He traveled the United States and many of its natural wonders along with family memories have been captured on his canvas. His humor and colorful spirit will be missed by many.
