DICKERSON Virgil William Dickerson, Jr. "Dickie", was born to Virgil Sr. and Evelyn (Tanner) Dickerson on Mary 30, 1943, in Hamilton, Oh. He was raised in Oxford, Oh. and graduated from Talawanda High School in 1961. Upon graduation, he was employed at Miami University while also attending Hamilton Technical School. While attending Hamilton Technical School, he met the love of his life, Shirley Hunter. Upon completion of school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served 4 years in the 1931 communications squadron. His last tour of duty was served at Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska, and he received an honorable discharge in August 1968. Upon discharge from the military, Virgil's life changed forever, when he reunited with his long time sweetheart, Shirley. They were united in Holy Matrimony on August 31, 1968 in Jamaica Queens, N.Y. Virgil became employed by Sperry-Rand. After training, he was assigned to technical repair in Chillicothe, Oh. The next year, Virgil was transferred to Columbus, Oh. Sperry-Rand later became Burroughs and eventually Unisys. He retired after 38 years of service. He particularly loved to bowl, fish and tinker with any type of electronic product. He also enjoyed shopping at flea markets and thrift stores. Virgil was a devoted husband, son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He will be sadly missed by all. Before his illness, he truly enjoyed his Sunday School Class and the Trusted Partners men's group. He enjoyed being a devoted member of the Mt. Hermon Baptist Church. God knew that you were tired and the hills were hard to climb, so he gently closed your weary eyes and whispered "peace be thine." Virgil was preceded in death by his parents Virgil Sr. and Evelyn Dickerson. He is survived by loving wife, Shirley; children, Virgil III and Sonji Dickerson; grandchildren, Tonecia Stevens, Darius Dickerson, Shianna Peoples and David Peoples, Jr.; sister, Audrey Mitchell, Akron, Oh.; brother, Bishop Ronald (Sara) Dickerson, Denver, Colo.; sister-in-law, Linda Wilkes, Burbank, Calif.; brother-in-law, James (Carmille) Hunter Jr., White House Station, N.J.; extended family, Larry and Willye Mason-Smoot and Eva Fails, Columbus, Oh.; special 1st cousin, Thyra (Edward) Stigall. Virgil leaves to mourn his death a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and lots of friends. He will truly be missed. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. on July 11, 2008, at the Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, 2283 Sunbury Road. Home going celebration 7-8 p.m. Rev. Donald J. Washington officiating. Interment Glen Rest Memorial Estates, Saturday, July 12, 2008, 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Virgil W.
