Mary Virginia Kurtz Ebinger, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on Friday, February 23, 2018. She was the daughter of Charles Jewett and Maybelle (Bradley) Kurtz. Mrs. Ebinger graduated from Columbus School for Girls in 1932. Wellesley College in 1937, and received a Master's degree in History from The Ohio State University in 1939. In 1939 she married Robert Frederick Ebinger, of Columbus, Ohio and had two sons, Robert Frederick Ebinger, Jr. and Charles Kurtz Ebinger. During WWII Mrs. Ebinger worked for the Department of Defense in Cincinnati. She was a past board member of the Vision Center, past President of Crichton Club, former President of the Wellesley Club, a member of the Women's Board and Twig 13 of Children's Hospital. She was a long standing supporter of Pilot Dogs. She was a member of Mary Ritter Garden Club and a former tutor for the Literacy Council of Columbus. She was a member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames, the Rocky Fork County Club and the Athletic Club of Columbus. Through the Columbus Foundation Mrs. Ebinger supported the American Red Cross (Central – Southeast Ohio Region), Central Ohio Lions Eye Bank, Faith Mission, OhioHealth Foundation, and the Salvation Army (Central Ohio). Locally she supported The Columbus School for Girls and the Columbus Academy. Nationally Mrs. Ebinger was interested in conservation and supported the Wilderness Society, Sierra Club, Nature Conservancy, and National Wildlife Federation. She was also a long term supporter of the Columbus Museum of Art and the Livingston Center for Art and Culture, MT. Mrs. Ebinger was an avid and award winning gardener, adored the Metropolitan Opera, and traveled extensively, especially to her beloved Tetons in Wyoming. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Robert F. Ebinger, Sr., her two brothers Charles and James Kurtz and their wives Elizabeth (Libby) and Ellis, her cousin Ione Beaton Krumm (Tahlman) and her daughter Catherine Krumm Medd. She is survived by two sons, Robert F. of Livingston, MT (Robin Hoggan) and Dr. Charles K. of Chevy Chase, MD (Dr. Putnam Mundy). She is also survived by her granddaughter, Dr. Cheryl Liechty of Rockport, ME (Dr. Mark Eggena) and two great-grandsons. Dear to her were nieces and nephew, Betsy Kurtz (Jim) Argo, Ellis Kurtz (Lee) Gery, Carolyn Kurtz, Charles J. (Linda) Kurtz III, Marilyn Kurtz (Phil) Parker, and her first cousin-once removed, Tahlman Krumm (Elizabeth). There will be no calling hours. Burial will be private with family and friends. Remembrances may be made to . A celebration of life will follow when the iris bloom. Family has entrusted SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL with final arrangements.
