Virginia Fridley Obituary
Fridley, Virginia
1927 - 2018
Virginia Ann (Hewlett) Fridley born to Margaret (Hill) and Horton Hewlett on Flag Day, June 14, 1927 Prestonsburg, KY, passed February 1, 2018 in Columbus, Ohio. Preceded in death by husband Stephen Matthew Fridley and 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Survived by sons Patrick Fridley and wife Cindy of Sarasota, Florida, John Fridley and wife Sue and Michael Fridley and wife Betty of Gahanna. She was a loving grandmother to 7: Christopher, Joseph, Jeremy, Monica, Sarah, Holly and Lorraine, great grandmother to 9, great, great grandmother to 2 and left behind numerous nieces and nephews. She was the last of a generation of hard working, loving and generous folks from the Hewlett family of Eastern Kentucky. A graduate of Capital University, she was a long time resident of Gahanna and retired from the Jefferson Local School district after over 28 years of teaching, mostly 4th grade, at Jefferson Elementary school. After retirement, she traveled extensively and loved the East Coast and the ocean waters. Although never one for the spotlight, she made a direct and positive impact on many of the youth of Gahanna for many years. Dozens if not hundreds of people today have a love of reading that was started and nurtured by her. She was an excellent cook, to which her family and friends can attest, and was a free spirit. Memorial service on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Stonybrook United Methodist Church, Gahanna. Lunch to follow. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations to Stonybrook United Methodist Church.
