Virginia Luft Obituary
Luft, Virginia
1925 - 2017
Virginia F. Luft, age 92, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2017 at home. She was born April 2, 1925 in Athens, Ohio to the late Clarence and Helen Ashcraft and was a graduate of Columbus Central High School. Virginia worked at the Ohio Farm Bureau as a Varityper operator. The Varityper was a highly ingenious "word processor" of the pre-digital age. She married the love of her life, Harry Richard "Dick" Luft on Valentine's Day in 1947. He preceded her in death in 1980. Virginia was affectionately known as "Ma" and "Ma-Ma". An extraordinary cook and baker, she shared her talents by generously distributing Christmas cookies and her famous chocolate Easter egg candy to family and friends. She was passionate about being there for her family, and was so proud of contributing to the success of her grandson's restaurant, Hot Chicken Takeover, where guests rave about "Ma's macaroni and cheese, Ma's coleslaw and Ma's sweet tea". She is survived by her children, Terry L. (Sandy) Luft, Robert Luft, Nikki Luft (Dan) DeLoss and Denise Luft Scholl; son-in-law Peter Scholl; grandchildren: Amy (Chris) Thomas with Morgan, Quinn and Addy, Terry J. (Sharon) Luft with Kayla, Renee (Chad) Reynolds with Andrew, Audrey and Evelyn, Joseph (Lisa) DeLoss with Finn and Maxine, Erin (Mike) Smith and Kate Scholl; brother Paul Ashcraft, sister-in-law Shirley Turnbull; numerous loved and cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved father and mother-in-law, Harry O. and Muriel Luft; sister, Betty Wright; sisters-in-law, Bessie Ashcraft, Ethelyn Luft, Helen Secrest, Dorothy Mock, Thelma Hess, Gladys Cudworth and Jenyne Jones. Family will welcome friends 6-8pm Monday, September 25, 2017 at Schoedinger Northeast Chapel, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd., Gahanna, OH 43230 as well as on Tuesday at Peace Lutheran Church from 10-11am with the funeral service beginning at 11am; interment to follow at Mifflin Cemetery; Pastor Kai Nilsen officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Virginia's memory may be made to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Ohio, Attn: Development Department, 711 E. Livingston Ave., Columbus, OH 43205.
